The Port Chester Rye UFSD is looking to hire an experience plumber with HVAC experience. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs skilled plumbing and HVAC work; does related work as required. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Under supervision performs a wide variety of plumbing work in the maintenance, installation and repair of piping systems and associated equipment in a school district carrying a flow of water, high and low pressure steam, air, sewage, etc. Work assignments are initiated by oral instructions, or written work orders and are checked upon completion with only occasional supervision during the course of the job. The more complex jobs require working from blueprints or rough sketches. Supervision may be exercised over a small number of custodians occasionally assigned as helpers. EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only) Installs, and repairs wash stands, toilets, showers, drains, sinks, radiators and other equipment requiring plumbing and heating connections; Repairs and replaces pipes, valves, and fittings for high and low-pressure steam, gas and liquid flow systems; Cuts and threads and fits pipe; Repairs and replaces parts for pumps and associated pumping equipment; Tests and tightens joints; Uses molten lead in the pouring and wiping of joints; Installs, repairs and replaces soldered and brazed connections; Taps liquid and gas mains for connections, as required. HVAC repairs.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES: Thorough knowledge of the tools, techniques and terminology associated with the plumbing trade; good knowledge of the accident prevention and safety precautions of the trade; familiarity with the applicable provisions of the State code and such local code as applies to the trade; ability to carry out the various specialized plumbing techniques with a high degree of skill; ability to work with a variety of piping system including high and low pressure steam, water, gas, etc.; ability to read blueprints and rough sketches; ability to coordinate work with the work of other trades; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to get along well with others; resourcefulness in work performance; initiative in successfully completing assigned work; physical strength and agility;MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Either: (a) graduation from high school or trade school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years of experience in plumbing work; or (b) completion of a two-year post high or trade school course in building trades work including some specific shop experience in plumbing at a school of applied arts and sciences and two years of experience in plumbing work; or (c) eight years of experience in plumbing work; or (d) a satisfactory equivalent combination of foregoing training and experience.
