The Port Chester Rye Union Free School District anticipates that the following stipend position will be available for the 2026-2027 school year. High School Assistant Marching Band Director Position Summary: The Assistant High School Marching Band Director supports the planning, instruction, supervision, and administration of the Marching Band and Color Guard programs at Port Chester High School. Under the direction of the Marching Band Director, the Assistant Director provides instructional leadership, rehearsal support, and student supervision to ensure a high-quality, well-organized, and safe marching band experience in accordance with School District policies. Qualifications: Certification in Music Education or related field (preferred). Experience working with high school marching band, color guard, or drumline programs. Strong instructional, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow program leadership. Primary Responsibilities: Instructional & Musical Support Assist with the instruction and rehearsal of the marching band and color guard during all scheduled practices, performances, and events. Provide sectional instruction (woodwinds, brass, percussion, or auxiliary units) as assigned by the Marching Band Director. Assist with teaching marching fundamentals, drill execution, music rehearsal, and performance techniques. Support the implementation of performance designs, music selections, and drill as developed by the Marching Band Director. Rehearsals, Performances & Band Camp Attend and actively participate in all required rehearsals, including summer rehearsals, band camp, after-school practices, competitions, parades, and performances. Assist with the organization and supervision of summer rehearsals held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00–9:00 PM beginning after July 4 and continuing through the start of the season. Support the planning and execution of Band Camp and special instructional clinics. ? Supervise students before, during, and after rehearsals and performances to ensure safety, discipline, and professionalism. Student Leadership & Tryouts Assist with conducting tryouts for drum majors and special units as directed by the Marching Band Director. Support the development of student leaders, including drum majors and section leaders. Supervision & Operations Assist in supervising marching band students, volunteers, and assigned staff during all activities. Help ensure student eligibility requirements for extracurricular participation are followed. Support the maintenance of accurate attendance and participation records as assigned. Equipment, Uniforms & Facilities Assist with inventory, distribution, collection, and care of marching band equipment and uniforms, including instruments, music, flags, rifles, batons, and related materials. Help monitor the proper use, storage, and care of equipment and rehearsal spaces. Assist with setup and breakdown of equipment for rehearsals, performances, and competitions. Travel, Events & Competitions Assist with supervision during local and overnight trips, competitions, festivals, and parades in accordance with School District policy. Support logistical planning for performances, including staging, warm-ups, and student movement. Communication & Collaboration Communicate regularly with the Marching Band Director regarding student progress, program needs, and concerns. Assist with communication to students and parents as directed by the Marching Band Director. Collaborate with marching band staff, music faculty, and the Supervisor of Fine and Performing Arts to support program goals. Booster & Community Support Assist the Marching Band Director in working with the Marching Band Booster Organization as requested. Support fundraising events, competitions, and community performances.
