Job Overview of Teacher - MusicThe Music Teacher provides direct and appropriate individualized instruction based on IEP goals and objectives in the subject areas according to the New York Learning Standards in Music and develops social skills while maintaining classroom discipline and safety. The teacher collaborates with a multidisciplinary team that includes teaching assistants, teacher aides, milieu therapists/assistants, social workers, parents and other professionals in the education and treatment of each child.This position works the school calendar, which is a 10-month school year with a 6-week summer program. Essential Duties of Teacher - MusicKey duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:Directly supervises all staff assigned to the classroomClassroom ManagementTeach music through musical instrument and voice.Delivers instruction according to the Orchard School Curriculum and the New York State Standards in Music.Maintains a safe and hazard free work area & reports problems and concerns regarding safety when appropriate.Demonstrates competency with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and can safely employ a therapeutic hold.Provides children with appropriate supervision at all times.Monitors the performance of safety-related tasks by fellow staff, offering assistance, clarification and correction as needed.Follows up on concerns & complains made by children, families and co-workersIs flexible, supportive and accommodating in crisis or unplanned situations.Completes all paperwork requirements clearly, accurately and in a timely manner.Actively participates in training opportunities and supervisory discussions.Attends meetings and trainings as required.Plans instruction to meet the learning styles and needs of the individual student.Utilizes a variety of effective techniques and materials to encourage motivation, interest and learning by the students.Use assessment and evaluation information to design, implement, and revise teaching techniques in order to enhance and evaluate student learningSupports overall strategic plan of the organizationAbility to adhere to our organization's core values and commitmentsEssential Qualifications of Teacher - MusicKey qualifications include: NYS Special Education Teacher CertificationTeaching Experience PreferredStrong verbal, written, and computer skills.Emotional IntelligenceAbility to access and utilize ADP app on smartphone or other device for access to agency programsPhysical/Travel Requirements of Teacher - MusicMust possess ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairsHave physical capacity to restrain or assist in the restraint of a child.
