Teacher - Phys. Ed Job Description Job Overview of Physical Education Teacher The Physical Education teacher collaborates with a multidisciplinary team that includes administrators, teacher assistants, clinicians, parents and other professionals in the education and treatment of each child. The Physical Education Teacher reports student progress by reviewing the IEP on a quarterly basis, completing a daily computer log, participating in quarterly Planning Conferences, and by issuing report cards. This is a 12-month position. This role also involves teaching Health and acting as the busing coordinator. Essential Duties of Physical Education Teacher Key duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of concepts of health and physical education, child safety and child development Plan and implement instruction to ensure that all students meet and exceed the New York State Physical Education Learning Standards Use student performance data derived from teacher-created and standardized assessments to drive instructional decision-making Ensure the safety of students in physical education activities Establish collaborative relationships to support integrating classroom content into physical education Facilitate whole-group and small group instruction based on the individual needs of students Maintain an inventory of all health and physical education equipment Prepare orders for supplies and equipment within the approved budget, following established purchasing procedures Serve as busing coordinator which entails managing busing for day students and serve as liaison with the busing companies that service our students Supports overall strategic plan of the organization Ability to adhere to our organization’s core values and commitments Essential Qualifications of Physical Education Teacher Key qualifications include: A master’s degree in education or relevant content area (preferred) New York State Certifications in Health and Physical Education Current CPR, AED and First Aid Certification Current lifeguard certification (preferred) and/or willingness to obtain lifeguard certification upon request Ability to maintain a flexible schedule based on busing coordinator duties with the expectation of staying on-site until all students are picked up An ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues, families and students A commitment to character development and family partnerships Physical/Travel Requirements of Physical Education Teacher Must possess ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairs, and lift weights of up to 30 lbs. Have the physical capacity to restrain or assist in the restraint of a child. Be able to hear and see well enough to provide appropriate supervision of children. 10-month school year and 6 week summer program* The employee must be able to meet these requirements with or without a reasonable accommodation.
