Reports to: Superintendent of Schools or their designeePosition Overview:The Director of Equity and K-12 Curriculum and Instruction is a key leadership role within Nyack Public Schools, responsible for developing and implementing initiatives that promote equity, inclusivity, and belonging across the district. This position will ensure that the curriculum reflects the diverse backgrounds and experiences of all students and aligns with the district's commitment to educational excellence, equity, and community engagement. The director will work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, students, and the community to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that prepares students for success in a diverse and global society.Duties and Responsibilities:Equity and Inclusion Leadership:Develop and implement a comprehensive equity and inclusion plan that aligns with the district's mission, vision, and equity goals.Collaborate with district leaders to integrate equity and belonging into all aspects of school operations and culture.Serve as a district representative on issues of equity and inclusion, both internally and in the community, while embedding antiracist principles aligned with the District’s Strategic Policy for Excellence in Education Through Racial Equity.Curriculum Development and Evaluation:Review and revise curricula to ensure they are inclusive, culturally responsive, and aligned with state standards and district goals.Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and directors to ensure the curriculum is equitable, unbiased, and reflective of the district's diversity.Evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum changes and make recommendations for continuous improvement.Professional Development:Design and implement professional development programs for staff focused on equity, diversity, and inclusion.Provide ongoing support and resources to educators to enhance their ability to create inclusive and equitable learning environments.Lead workshops, training sessions, and discussions on topics related to cultural competence, implicit bias, antiracist constructs, and equitable teaching practices.Promote avenues for increased access and inclusion through professional development and training.Coordinate the Equity Certification Program (ECP) in partnership with the NTA.Community Engagement:Foster strong relationships with students, families, and community and administration members to support an inclusive school climate.Partner with community organizations and stakeholders to promote equity and inclusion within the district.Develop and maintain communication strategies to inform and engage the community about equity initiatives and progress.Data Analysis and Reporting:Collect and analyze disaggregated data related to student achievement, equity, and inclusion to identify areas for improvement.Coordinate the collection of regular disaggregated data reports, including a summative end-of-year report across areas of academic achievement, discipline, graduation rates, special education referrals, and advanced course of study.Develop reports and presentations to communicate progress and outcomes to district leadership and the school board.Restorative Discipline:Coordinate the Suspension Alternative Program at the administration building, providing training for staff in restorative discipline principles.Develop quarterly disaggregated data reports related to discipline and restorative practices.Policy Development and Implementation:Review and recommend policies and practices that promote equity and inclusion across the district.Collaborate with district leadership to support efforts to address systemic barriers to equity and inclusion within the district.Recruitment and Retention:Collaborate with HR and school leaders to implement strategies that attract and retain diverse talent within the district.Communication:Communicate regularly with the Superintendent of Schools regarding the needs of the district as perceived by staff, students, parents, community members, and interested individual groups.Apply antiracist language to district-wide communications that fosters a district-wide antiracist lens in community outreachWork closely with PRCO Office for consistent antiracist messaging, narrative and district communications.Other: May be assigned other duties and/or responsibilities as appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools. Qualifications:Current NYS school district leader certification is required.Proven experience in leading equity and inclusion initiatives within an educational setting.Strong knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices and curriculum development.Familiarity with K-12 curriculum and instructional practices.Strong knowledge in identifying, collecting, and analyzing data to assess institutional climate, disparities in academic achievement, school discipline, and other areas of the learning process.Ability to build consensus and community around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills and expected to lead the Equity Liaisons.Commitment to the mission and vision of Nyack Public Schools and a passion for promoting equity and inclusion.Experience in faculty professional development.
