The North Syracuse Central School District is seeking applications for a Teacher on Special Assignment - Restorative Practices Specialist/Dean of Students.Applicants must hold NYS certification as Teacher, Social Worker, School Counselor or School Psychologist.JOB DESCRIPTION:Position: Restorative Practices SpecialistPosition Description:The Restorative Practice Specialist (RPS) will work collaboratively with the Principal, Associate Principal and the Counseling Department/school psychologist to support staff and students using a multi-tiered system of supports with restorative practice. The RPS will use prevention practices by reaffirming relationships through SEL understanding and skills that promote and strengthen a sense of belonging and ownership. The RPS will manage targeted difficulties by repairing relationships and resolving differences using restorative practices to prevent harm by building SEL capacity. Finally, the RPS will support interventions by rebuilding relationships to reintegrate students from suspension and provide resources for behavioral concerns. Responsibilities and duties* may include but are not limited to:Support building-wide restorative practice implementationModel Restorative Practices throughout the buildingAffective statementsAffective questionsImpromptu conferencesCirclesOffer on-going consultation, coaching, technical support and PD to staff on Restorative PracticesConflict ResolutionConduct conflict mediations circles using Restorative PracticesParticipate in Building-Wide Peer Mediation ProgramRecruit, train, and support student mediatorsProvide adult supervision of peer mediation processProvide resources for behavioral supportParticipate in the discipline referral process utilizing a restorative practices approach.Develop students' social emotional skills through daily, scheduled, skill building, community circles. (Up to four scheduled circles per day.)Conduct and manage the reentry process when students return from suspensions including running reentry meetings, creating/monitoring agreements, and following up with students, families, and teachers.Data collection/analysis Work with families using a restorative approach Conduct restorative circles with families and school to support reintegration of studentsProvide participants, parent and appropriate staff with agreement of restorative processFollow the middle school staff schedule (7:40- 3:10) or elementary school staff schedule (8:30 - 4:00)Hours may be flexed, with supervisor or principal pre-approval (not to exceed 37.5 hours per week)Work up to 20 additional days during the summer when mutually agreed upon between RPS and supervisorRPS will be compensated for time exceeding contractual hours* Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Social Emotional Learning and DEI, Principal, or Superintendent.Reporting:The Restorative Practice Specialist (RPS)is supervised by the Director of Social Emotional Learning and DEI.
