City School District of New RochelleEmbracing Diversity: Driving SuccessDIRECTOR OF GUIDANCEQUALIFICATIONS: SDA/SDL Certification - At least five years of successful experience in Guidance Counseling.REPORTS TO: The Assistant Superintendent for Student Support ServicesSUPERVISES: All Secondary Level Guidance CounselorsJOB SUMMARY: The Director of Guidance in coordination with the secondary school administrators and the Director of Pupil Services plans, manages, supervises, coordinates, monitors and evaluates the overall structure and delivery of guidance services. In addition, the Director of Guidance is responsible for program development, professional development, enhancing family participation and fiscal control operations of the guidance department.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates the delivery of guidance and counseling services at the secondary school level Supervises and evaluates middle school and high school counselors and other guidance department staff members Plans an annual high school calendar of events which includes testing schedules, student meetings, individual and group parent/guardian meetings, curriculum meetings, pupil personnel services team meetings, case conferences and the annual eighth grade to ninth grade orientation transitional schedule/program Co-designs orientation sessions for ninth grade students and their families in conjunction with secondary level school administrators Facilitates communication between high school and middle school pupil personnel services team members in planning for students with special needs Coordinates pupil personnel services team meetings and case conferences in each house at the high school Promotes student and counselor visitations to colleges, universities, technical schools, organizations and businesses Coordinates and reviews all pupil personnel services and special education referrals Supervises the maintenance of guidance records and transcripts Reviews special requests of parents/guardians and graduated students to review their guidance and educational records Oversees data collection and follow up information for the annual high school profile Participates on the High School Attendance Committee to develop plans to address absenteeism concern Supervises the distribution of student program guides, procedures for course selections and the collection of ninth through twelfth graders program requests Supervises in-school programs related to career education Provides information for media releases and public announcements related to students’ special programs, testing programs, scholarships and other guidance department activities Chairs the High School Regents Committee Responsible for the coordination and administration of standardized and state tests at the secondary school level Leads regular department meetings to communicate curriculum initiatives, share ideas, and plan for ongoing improvements Supervises the processing of school or college and scholarship applications, and cooperates with State and private employment agencies in the placement of graduates Develops partnerships and schedules meetings with college admissions personnel or college alumni, and arranges for pupil conferences with these people Organizes special orientation programs such as College Night, Career Night, etc. Assesses and plans professional development activities for staff in the guidance department and completes and submits appropriate forms Conducts conferences with parents/guardians to help them better understand and assist with the educational, personal, social, and vocational adjustments of their children Utilizes the resources of the community in developing and expanding guidance services and activities. He/she works closely with other community agencies interested in the full development of young people Responsible for the preparation and submission of annual budget requests of the building guidance department to the respective building principals.
