City School District of New Rochelle Embracing Diversity: Driving Success JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Guidance in coordination with the secondary school administrators manages, supervises, coordinates, monitors and evaluates the overall structure and delivery of school counseling services. In addition, the Director of Guidance is responsible for program development, professional development, enhancing family participation and fiscal control operations of the guidance department. REPORTS TO: The Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services SUPERVISES: All Districtwide School Counselors CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS: A minimum of a Master’s degree in Education or a closely related field at the time of application New York State School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leadership (SDL) Certificate at the time of application Direct service history with school counselors PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate the delivery of guidance and counseling services at the secondary school level Supervise, support, and evaluate middle school and high school counselors and other guidance department staff members Maintain and monitor counselor caseloads throughout the year Plan an annual middle school and high school calendar of events aligned with the 6-12 comprehensive guidance plan which includes testing schedules, student meetings, classroom push-ins and pull-outs, grade level night meetings, course selection meetings and transcript audits Screen all new high school registrants, assign counselors and schedule success plan meetings when deemed necessary in collaboration with the building principal. Work closely with Assistant Director of Special Education when new students with an IEP enroll in the high school In collaboration with the Director of Pupil Personnel, support the transition of students enrolling in and transferring from home schooling Facilitate communication between high school and middle school pupil personnel services team members in planning for students with special needs Serve as the Coordinator for multiple District initiatives and programs, such as BOCES, Advances Placement testing, ACT/SAT Testing, SSD, NCAA, Naviance and ACCESS-VR Conduct transcript reviews and determine credits earned for all new students transferring from out of the United States Serve as the College and Career Coordinator: Promote student and counselor visits to colleges, universities, technical schools, organizations and businesses Organize all college rep visits and hosts information sessions Organize the Annual College and Career Fair in the spring Supervise in-school programs/workshops related to career education Supervise the maintenance of guidance records and permanent records (i.e. transcripts) Collaborate with the high school counselors to process all Appeals, Superintendent’s Determinations and Major Life Event records for the superintendent’s review/approval Review special requests of parents/guardians and graduated students to review their guidance and educational records Oversee all graduation certifications and the accurate graduation data is provided Oversee data collection and follow up information for annual high school profile Assist with the development of the master schedule and support the work of keeping classes balanced throughout the year Supervise the distribution of student program guides, procedures for course selections and the collection of ninth through twelfth graders program requests Provide information for media releases and public announcements related to students’ special programs, testing programs, scholarships and other guidance department activities Lead traditional and grade level department meetings to communicate curriculum initiatives, share ideas, and plan for ongoing improvements Manage all grade level information night presentations (9-12) including presentations/workshops related to financial aid which are delivered in English and Spanish Collaborate with community organizations to enhance grade level meeting and scholarship opportunities Assess and plan professional development activities for staff in the guidance department and complete and submit appropriate forms Present annually to the BOE on data achievement aligned to the comprehensive 6-12 guidance plan and district strategic plan and goals Responsible for the preparation and submission of annual budget requests of the building guidance department to the respective building principals Perform other responsibilities at the request of the Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services and the secondary level school administrators or as required by law The City School District of New Rochelle strives to reflect the diversity of the entire community EOE: Minority candidates are encouraged to apply
