City School District of New RochelleEmbracing Diversity: Driving Success The City School District of New Rochelle is seeking a District Wide Director of Performing & Visual Arts as the PK-12 leader of New Rochelle schools’ arts programs. The Director oversees our arts programs in music, visual arts, dance, theater, and our Performing and Visual Arts Education (PAVE) Program at New Rochelle High School. The District Director is responsible for the curriculum and supervision of arts staff in all schools in collaboration with building principals. The successful candidate is expected to have teaching experience in music or visual arts and arts leadership experience. The successful candidate must possess a valid NY State Certificate in Music or Art and School District Leader.Role: To plan and implement district-wide performing and visual arts programs. Through effective development, supervision, and administration, ensure that the K-12 music and arts education programs are directed to all levels of ability and understanding so that all children can participate.Performance Responsibilities: Recruit, interview, and recommend teachers for appointment, reassignment, or re-employment. Advise administration on the assignment of teachers and plan schedules of staff so that there is equitable distribution of their time in the various school building in the district. Coordinate the activities of the music and arts programs Conduct staff development meetings for staff. Determine the course of study in music and arts education activities according to the New York State Department of Education requirements. Assume the major responsibility for supervising, evaluating, and recommending continued service of departmental personnel. Assume responsibility for all public performances presented by the music department and approve all music presented by school performing organizations for both school and public performances. Make arrangements for student participation in district, county, state, and national music and arts festivals. Organize and present all district music festivals to maintain high standards and allow the public to observe the quality of the music education program on a district-wide level. Encourage and promote participation in musical activities jointly sponsored by New Rochelle community music organizations and the District Music Department. Assist in arranging and scheduling transportation for school music education groups. Arrange for all district-wide visual arts festivals, including displays at City Hall and the “Our Children, Our Artists” presentation at the New Rochelle Public Library. Prepare and distribute bulletins to inform teachers and other personnel of the activities of the departments. Prepare and present to the administration a budget for supplies. Prepare specifications for purchasing equipment and supplies. Approve purchasing requisitions and submit them to the Purchasing Department for processing. Maintain a complete, up-to-date inventory of all district-owned equipment and assume responsibility for maintenance and repairs. Appraise textbooks and equipment in use and assume responsibility for equitable equipment and supplies distribution. Perform other duties as delegated by the Assistant Superintendent (Curriculum & Instruction) and/or the Superintendent of Schools. Oversee/manage the district's BOCES Arts in Education grants process in consultation with the Business Office. Represent the district at local, state, and national arts organization meetings such as NYSSMA, NYSCAME, NYSATA, WCALA, and WCSMA. Assume responsibility for the supervision, evaluation, and recommendation for continued service of the Theater Manager. Assume the major responsibility for supervising the PAVE Program at New Rochelle High School.23. Coordinate and supervise the Summer Music Academy program.
