City School District of New RochelleEmbracing Diversity: Driving SuccessThe City School District of New Rochelle is looking to fill a Visual Arts Leave Replacement (Elementary)Anticipate Start/End: September - November 2022 Seeking candidate with the following strengths:Enjoys working with studentsInnovative instructional skills for a diverse student bodyValues collaboration and teamworkSense of humor Reports to: Director of Performing & Visual Arts; PrincipalYou can learn more about our program here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7TAtPFNNwgClassroom Responsibilities:• Plans, develops, and carries out a quality program of sequential instruction aligned to National and State Core Arts Standards in Visual Arts for elementary students, grades K-5• Provide opportunities for students to achieve in visual arts through two and three-dimensional projects• Familiarity and facility with art materials including but not limited to watercolors, colored pencils, cray pas, clay, clay tools, plaster, brushes, drawing pencils, drawing paper, etc.• Understands and can demonstrate techniques of a variety of “masters”• Familiarity with or willingness to learn TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behaviors)• Provide individual and small and large group instruction to a variety of students• Ability to adapt instruction to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities• Instructs students in the proper care and use of art materials• Knows and can apply the elements of art and principles of design• Organizes the use, care, and storage of art materials and equipment to promote efficient use and minimize loss or spoilage of such materials• Recommend annually the purchase of classroom art supplies• Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to show students’ artwork at the school and within the community• Maintains appropriate records of student achievement for all students assigned to classes in the program• Collaborates with department colleagues districtwide and within the assigned schools to maintain and enhance the quality of arts instruction• Communicates with parents/guardians of students on a regular basis• Works with building and district administration to develop appropriate achievement goals for students in each grade level or group• Collaborates with colleagues within and outside the arts department in the district on school or district initiatives• Perform such other duties as directed by the Director of Performing & Visual Arts or building administration. Qualifications:• Holds New York State Certification in Visual Arts• Demonstrated excellence in teaching• Demonstrated knowledge of artistic media appropriate for elementary students.• Superior organizational skills• Understands successful techniques for motivating students• Professional proficiency in a specific media• Demonstrated computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, databases, and artistic software programs as neededNYS Certification is required at time of applicationEOE: Minority candidates are encouraged to applyPlease do not send resumes to Human Resources.
