North Shore Middle School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate school counselor to join our student support team. The ideal candidate is empathetic, hard-working, and collaborative, with a strong desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives of middle school students. Prior counseling experience in a school setting is strongly preferred.RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, prepare and deliver school counselor services to students in grades 6-8 that facilitate the social-emotional well-being of students. Collaborate with teachers, school mental health providers, administrators, families, and outside agencies to develop and implement strategies that promote student well-being and academic achievement.Analyze student data and make decisions around increasing student success.Assist students in developing academic plans in accordance with their skills, interests, talents, and strengths.Participate in Student Support Team (SST), 504, CSE, and grade level team meetings. Support students in the transition between elementary, middle, and high school.Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with colleagues.Support all students with diverse needs (ENL, IEP, 504, etc.).Develop and deliver counseling curriculum addressing topics such as social skills, study skills, conflict resolution, mental health, and college/career readiness.Provide guidance to students to help navigate school and social situations, which will include facilitating/participating in student conflict resolution practices, mediations, and other restorative practices.Foster a strong home, school and community connection.Communicate effectively orally and in writing.Support the building Principal in building the master schedule. Develop student schedules in collaboration with students, families, staff, administration.Meet professional school counselor requirements of school, district and state.Other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling and Principal. Qualifications:NYS School Counselor CertificationMaster’s Degree in School Counseling Minimum of 2 years of experience in a school setting is preferred.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a teamExcellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
