Title : ENL Half-Time Teacher Pay Scale : Based on the NBTA Contract. Job Description : The North Bellmore School District seeks a half-time English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher to serve students in grades K–6. There may be opportunities available to serve as a per diem substitute teacher or paraprofessional during the remainder of the day. The ENL Teacher provides instructional support to students identified as Multilingual Learners (MLLs) through the NYSITELL (anticipated WIDA) assessment and uses NYSESLAT (anticipated WIDA) results to guide instruction and determine ongoing eligibility for ENL services. The ENL Teacher ensures students develop English language proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing through a variety of flexible service models, including push-in and/or pull-out instruction. The ENL Teacher plays a key role in advancing equitable access to curriculum and fostering language development through collaborative, student-centered practices. The ENL Teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, contributes to professional learning, and supports students’ academic and social-emotional growth. The ENL Teacher reports to the building principal(s), ENL Principal Liaison, and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Key Responsibilities: Instruction & Planning Plan and deliver standards-based instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards Design and implement differentiated lessons based on students’ language proficiency levels and academic needs Utilize a variety of ENL instructional strategies to support language acquisition across content areas Incorporate technology to enhance instruction and student engagement Collaboration & Support Collaborate with grade-level teams, support staff, and special education service providers Co-plan with general education teachers to support language development and access to grade-level content Provide instructional support through modeling strategies, lesson planning, and ongoing reflection with colleagues Participate as a member of the Early Intervention Team Assessment & Data Use Use formative and benchmark assessments to inform instruction and monitor student progress Administer the Home Language Questionnaire and/or NYSITELL (anticipated WIDA) to determine eligibility for ENL services Administer the NYSESLAT (anticipated WIDA) assessment annually Serve as a member of the Language Proficiency Team Maintain a working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to ENL services Family & Community Engagement Communicate effectively with families, including outreach to support student success Demonstrate cultural responsiveness when working with students from diverse backgrounds Support students’ social, emotional, and academic development Additional Responsibilities Participate in curriculum development and professional learning opportunities Contribute to a collaborative and flexible team environment Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications : Current and valid New York State ESOL/TESOL certification required Common Branch K–6 certification preferred but not required Experience in a public school setting preferred but not required Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred Strong oral and written communication skills Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community members Employment Term: This is a 0.5 FTE (half-time) position.
