Description: To carry out the district-wide plan to improve the reading achievement of all students assigned; to develop and implement lesson plans to provide diversified reading strategies and activities specifically designed for targeted students. This position will include attending professional development, collecting data, and providing feedback to the principal or his/her designee, the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and the Executive Director of Pupil Personnel Services and Special Education. PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT APPLYExpectations: Mastery of all district ELA initiatives Knowledge of language development, the reading process, and the components of reading performance to assess and instructPlan and implement sequential learning experiences for students using a variety of instructional strategies, consistent with the district and school’s philosophy, mission statement, instructional goals, school level objectives, and the NYS Standards Evidence of the use of student data, running records and other assessment tools to guide instruction; interpret information from both formal and informal assessments for planning instructionConsistent implementation of best practices, including differentiated instruction; model ways to engage for the range of skill levels and developmental needs Provide Tier I, Tier II and/or Tier III interventions in the reading room or in the classroom Provide professional development for teachers with respect to supporting classroom instruction in ELA; support classroom teachers with providing Tier I and Tier II support to students in the classroom with respect to Literacy Identify high interest appropriate texts and materials to match students’ strengths and needs to promote knowledge, independence, and motivationSupport the implementation of resources, assessments, and programs with respect to Literacy Assess children throughout the school and identify children at risk, using a variety of assessment techniquesCompile and share data to be shared with building administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, etc. Coordinate enrichment instruction with classroom teachers to reinforce learning and student achievementProvide and effectively organize a variety of materials, equipment, media, and community resources to support the instructional program, using school approved proceduresUse effective presentation skills when modeling and/or employing direct instruction, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speechCommunicate with parents, as needed, seeking their support and advice, to create a cooperative relationship to support the child in the school Demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional development Other assigned duties/responsibilities at the building and district levels Requirements: NYS Certification in Reading or Literacy Wilson Level 1 Certification – Required or in progress LLI Training- Preferred but not required Orton Gillingham Classroom or Associate Level Certifications- Preferred but not required F&P Benchmark Assessment Training- Preferred but not required Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, community members, and staff members Employment Term: This is a probationary position EOE Employer: The North Bellmore School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate in its employment decisions and practices on the basis of legally protected classes in accordance with Federal and State law.
