The Department of Regional Schools and Instructional Programs is seeking an experienced Barbering Teacher to work with high school students at the Joseph M. Barry Technical Education Center. The candidate must be able to teach both first and second year-level students. Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to: Preparing students to work in a wide range of positions within the barbering fieldCombining classroom and laboratory instruction for hands on learningTeaching academic and professional skills for job acquisition, retention, and advancementEmphasizing training in safety, sanitation, hair care, and the latest cutting/styling trendsProviding an overview of the salon industry and opportunities for professional growthPreparing students to take the NY State Barber License ExamREQUIREMENTS: New York State Education Department Certification: Barbering 7-12 Transitional A CertificateNew York State Barber LicenseMinimum of 4 years of experience in barberingExperience in salon management or ownership, including hiring practicesExcellent oral, written and communication skillsStrong planning and organizational skills
