The Department of Regional Schools and Instructional Programs is seeking an experienced Part-time Barbering teacher who will have the opportunity to work at Barry Tech. The teacher must be able to teach both first and second year students, including students with IEPs and 504s. Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to: Prepare students to take the New York State Licensing Exam in Barbering.Create lesson plans and course outlines to prepare students to work in various areas of the barbering field.Combine classroom and laboratory instruction for hands on learning.Appropriate management of a classroom environment and meeting each student’s needs.Teach academic and professional skills for job acquisition, retention and advancement.Provide an overview of the salon industry and opportunities for professional growth.Evaluation of each student’s progress as a part of record keepingREQUIREMENTS: New York State Education Department Certification: Teacher Certification or Transitional A, Initial or Professional in Barbering 7-12.A valid New York State Barbering License.A minimum of four years of professional experience in barbering.Ability to network with professionals in the barbering field.Strong oral, writing and communication skills.Experience in salon management or ownership including hiring practices.Experience working with secondary students is preferred.
