The Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology is seeking a School Social Worker to support the Supervisor of Social Workers and Psychologists to maintain the overall effectiveness of the services provided to contracted school districts by the Health and Allied Services (HAS) Department. Additionally, the department is seeking individuals able to provide direct social worker services to students in various Nassau BOCES programs or non-public schools throughout Nassau County. Students may include those with social, emotional, behavioral and/or learning challenges. The successful candidate will work closely with the supervisor of HAS School Social Workers and Psychologists and work closely with administration from any assigned school(s). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Assisting with the implementation of program services provided by the School Psychologists and School Social Workers within HAS contracted school districts’ private and independent schools.Communicating and collaborating with school districts, private schools and independent schools about HAS support services.Organizing training sessions or workshops for School Psychologists and School Social Workers.Participating in crisis interventions to assist HAS School Psychologists and School Social Workers and providing appropriate referrals and consultation.Participating in the Committee for Special Education (CSE) process for students at various locations.Providing individual and/or group counseling sessions for students.Collaborating with all members of the school community and participating in staff meetings.Maintaining accurate, appropriate and timely records and reports.Additional summer hours may be available based on program needs.REQUIREMENTS:New York State Education Department Certification as a School Social Worker.Valid and current status as Licensed Master Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Two or more years of related experience is preferred.Ability to travel throughout Nassau County.
