The position holds primary responsibilities of designing and implementing direct ENL instruction and collaborating with special education teachers to provide English language support in other content areas. Additionally, the ENL teacher will: Provide direct instruction to small groups of students and/or support for content classes containing ELL students, based on CR-154 requirements. Advise teachers on modifying/accommodating curriculum for ELL students and share best practices to ensure high quality instruction. Create a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported and challenged. Administer New York State mandated assessments for ELL students. REQUIREMENTS: New York State Education Department Certification – Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). New York State Education Department Certification – Special Education is preferred. Demonstrated collaboration and teamworking skills. Experience in teaching in underserved areas is preferred. Experience in working with students with interrupted formal education (S.I.F.E) is also preferred.
