The COMS is responsible for the evaluation, implementation, and progress monitoring of children according to the Individual Education Plan.Required:Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/universityOrientation and Mobility Specialist CertificationWorking knowledge of orientation and travel skills from preschool through high school in the school and community settingsKnowledge of relevant technologyResponsibilities:Appropriately assess students for Orientation and Mobility Services to establish needs, set goals and measure progressProvide instruction in the development and maintenance of skills to meet the learner's unique needs from Birth to 21Schedule time efficiently for assessment, instruction, planning, preparation of materials, travel and conference with relevant school and other key individualsAssist students to understand the impact of vision and to make safe travel decisions.Develop student’s sensory, conceptual, motor, and formal orientation and mobility skillsEvaluate student’s progress and submit written evaluation reportsIdentify and recommend specific sensory aids/devicesMaintain daily logWrite IEP goals and attend CSE meetingsEstablish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, district personnel, students, and parentsExpress oneself effectively, both orally and in writingPerform related duties as required*** IN ADDITION TO APPLYING ON OLAS, ALL APPLICANTS MUST VISIT THE NASSAU BOCES Employment Opportunities PAGE TO COMPLETE THEIR APPLICATION ***
