Anticipated Job Posting 2026-2027 Literacy Specialist - District Wide Monroe-Woodbury Central School District is committed to academic achievement and success for all students in a safe environment. The Monroe-Woodbury Central School District is seeking a dynamic Literacy Instructional Specialist to lead our K-5 ELA initiatives. This individual will serve as an expert in literacy development, providing high-level support to general education teachers, special education providers, and Reading Academic Intervention Services (AIS) teachers. REQUIREMENTS: Must have NYS Literacy certification Gr. K-5 Science of reading credential preferred Orton Gillingham/Wilson certification preferred Must meet NYSED Fingerprinting requirements RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrated instructional leadership, including experience providing professional development and staff training in the Science of Reading Strong understanding of and ability to contribute to the MTSS framework, including Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 instructional strategies Experience using data to inform instructional decisions and drive student outcomes Experience with curriculum development, implementation, and alignment The ideal candidate is deeply committed to the research behind the Science of Reading and possesses the ability to translate complex research into actionable, high-impact classroom instruction. Provide ongoing professional development and in-class support. This includes modeling evidence-based lessons, co-planning, and assessments. Lead the implementation of research-based literacy practices rooted in the Science of Reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension). Assist teachers in designing and implementing robust Tier 1 interventions and progress monitoring within the core classroom. Support staff in managing progress monitoring data to ensure intervention efficacy across all tiers. Facilitate collaborative data meetings focused on error analysis of student work and summative assessment data to diagnose literacy gaps and inform small-group instruction. Ensure all instruction aligns with the Next Generation ELA Learning Standards. Provide specialized support in the implementation and optimization of the HMH curriculum. Design and facilitate district-wide professional development, ensuring that sessions are followed by meaningful, sustained in-class support. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: A thorough understanding of the Science of Reading and how it applies to both foundational skills and advanced literacy. Proven ability to provide professional development and follow-up support that results in measurable changes in teacher practice. Skilled in analyzing various literacy assessments to drive instructional pivots and tiered support. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong, supportive professional relationships with diverse staff members. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple school schedules and prioritize district-wide literacy goals. Knowledge of HMH literacy programs is preferred. EFFECTIVE: September 01, 2026
