Bilingual Reading AIS Teacher - Probationary The Bilingual AIS Reading Teacher provides targeted literacy intervention and support to students in the Dos Caminos Dual Language Program who have not yet met grade-level benchmarks in reading and writing in Spanish and/or English. The teacher uses diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment data to identify students' strengths and areas for growth and develops individualized instructional plans to accelerate literacy development and biliteracy achievement. Through culturally and linguistically responsive practices, the Bilingual AIS Reading Teacher implements research-based literacy interventions that address foundational literacy skills, language development, reading comprehension, and writing. The teacher collaborates closely with classroom teachers, intervention staff, administrators, and families to support student success. LOCATION: Mamaroneck Avenue School RESPONSIBILITIES Plan and deliver culturally and linguistically responsive literacy intervention that supports bilingualism, biliteracy, and academic achievement. Provide targeted small-group and individualized literacy instruction based on assessment data and student needs. Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction to address identified strengths and areas for growth. Support the development of foundational literacy skills, including phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing in Spanish and/or English. Collaborate with classroom teachers, the Instructional Support Team, and families to support student achievement and align intervention goals with core instruction. Utilize research-based instructional practices, intervention programs, and technology to differentiate instruction and maximize student engagement. Maintain accurate records of student progress, intervention services, and assessment data. Foster an inclusive, affirming learning environment that values bilingualism, multiculturalism, and student diversity. Participate in collaborative planning, MTSS/RTI processes, professional learning communities, and schoolwide literacy initiatives. Serve as a resource for literacy, biliteracy, and multilingual learner instruction. QUALIFICATIONS Biliterate, Spanish- speaker Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience preferred. Experience in bilingual, dual language, multilingual, and/or culturally diverse educational settings preferred. Demonstrates expertise in literacy assessment, intervention, and evidence-based literacy instruction. Knowledge of biliteracy development, second-language acquisition, and the instructional needs of multilingual learners. Understanding of dual language education, MTSS/RTI frameworks, and New York State Learning Standards. Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with families in English and Spanish as appropriate. Commitment to ongoing professional learning and continuous improvement in literacy, biliteracy, and multilingual learner education.
