RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, prepare and deliver culturally responsive and relevant lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning and engagementConduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needsCommunicate with the Instructional Support Team and parents regarding student progress and areas for growthUtilize relevant technology and instructional materials to support and differentiate instructionEstablish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with colleaguesEncourage family involvement in each student’s education, and ensure effective communication with students and familiesPromote a classroom environment that is safe, welcoming, and affirming for all students Work in a collaborative teaching environment, including co-teaching and interdisciplinary planningCommunicate effectively orally and in writingMeet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and stateSupport students with various disabilities and needs in the academic, functional, behavioral and social domains, by building trusting and positive relationshipsResponsible for writing and implementing lesson plans, to teach students a variety of life skills, employment skills, and post-secondary education skills, in the school setting and also in various, applicable community settingsProvide whole group, small group, and/or individualized instruction in an engaging manner, which aligns to Transition Curriculum and student IEP goalsDemonstrate appropriate planning and organizational skills, to ensure compliance is followed in IEP's, including timelines, assessments, and internal proceduresUtilize various technology to: develop engaging learning activities for students, communicate professionally with the multidisciplinary team, and create/share files and schedules with others via Google SuiteOversee and support a team of support staff through daily meetings, observations, feedback sessions and ongoing trainingResponsible for writing IEPs as well as conducting and writing educational evaluations POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Strong understanding of positive behavior reinforcement systems and task analysisKnowledge of high leverage special education practicesExperience with IEP development - writing goals, progress monitoring and identification of modifications/accommodationsIn depth knowledge of social emotional learning approaches and experience in implementing SEL to cultivate a classroom that is affirming and welcomingThorough knowledge of the NYS Learning StandardsDemonstrated knowledge of NYS Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Frameworks Ability to analyze data to improve instructional practice and student learning outcomesAbility to engage in self-reflection with regard to performance and professional growth; actively seeks professional learning opportunitiesPossession of appropriate New York State Teacher Certification REPORTS TO: Building Principal Ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
