Special Education ResponsibilitiesPlans and implements program goals and objectives for the special education program Pre-K-12th grade while maintaining an awareness of current laws, policies, and regulations pertaining to specific programs. This includes in-district and external placements.Applies current research and techniques to ensure that all individuals with exceptional needs are appropriately identified, assessed, and provided with appropriate educational programs and services designed to meet their unique needs.Represents the District in legal proceedings and participates in IEP meetings, discussions, informal conferences, mediations, and due process hearings to resolve issues regarding special education students.Develops and maintains liaison with appropriate governmental agencies and relevant community groups and remains current on special education legislation.Recommends and manages the budget for special education programs.Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to special education.Performs regular program reviews and recommends changes in program administration, methodology, curriculum and/or procedures as necessaryAssigns and schedules special education personnelParticipates in the selection of personnel for the Special Education Department Oversees professional development for special education personnelDisseminates information regarding special education to staff, students, parents, and the communityAnalyzes and secures contracted services and provides oversight.Supervises TOSA - Behavior Intervention Specialist Supervises TOSA - CPSE Chair and TOSA - Special Education (External Placements)Assist with various district-level functions determined by the Superintendent of Schools.Grant Development ResponsibilitiesPrepares proposals by conducting research, gathering internal and external data to support grant requests, writing drafts, and obtaining approvals.Identifies funding needs and opportunities and attends strategy meetings.Ensures proposal deadlines are met by determining priorities and target dates for information gathering, drafting, editing, revising, and submitting proposals.Communicates the proposal strategy and progress to other organizational stakeholders and obtains input and signoff on content from other departments as needed.Writes and edits executive summaries, conclusions, and organizational and program descriptions.Communicates the presentation of grant proposals, outcomes, and implementation to key stakeholders.Maintains the overall quality of proposals by creating, maintaining, and revising proposal templates and proposal support databases.Recommends and manages the budget for grant-funded programs.Meets with Assistant Superintendent and other administrators as necessary, to report on proposals, awards, and programming.Assist with various district-level functions determined by the Superintendent of Schools.
