WHO YOU CAN BECOME: The School Counselor is a full-time, 35-hour a week, 10-month (school calendar), and exempt, and salary position that will support the LSS mission and philosophies through providing individual and group counseling for students placed in the LSS education program. They work as a member of the education team to support a student’s successful engagement in the educational process and support his progress towards attaining his Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals. The school counselor collaborates with faculty members to assure they have the information needed to successfully work with each student. They assure the parent/guardian is aware of their child’s educational needs, IEP goals, anticipated graduation credential, and the impact of his IEP classification on his ability to function now and in the future, to enable them to support his success. WHAT YOU’LL DO: Attend weekly Day Services and/or other education team meetings as assigned.Maintain timely accurate records of all student and family contacts, delivery of related services, significant activity, and progress.Prepare comprehensive initial progress conference notes to support student’s successful transition to our school.Prepare necessary materials for and participate in school district Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and progress conferences.Provide required IEP counseling and document attendance/progress in CIS the student management system.Collaborate with CSE Case Manager to develop counseling goals and report IEP goal progress monitoring to the case manager for quarterly reports.Work closely with education staff, CSE Case Managers, and the Transition Coordinator under the oversight of the Assistant Director for Pupil Services, to ensure positive interventions and delivery of needed services in an efficient and effective manner.Knowledge of and adherence to the code of ethics and standards applicable to the individual’s credentials and work duties.Work within the multidisciplinary context of the program, including, but not limited to parents/guardians, placing districts, collateral service providers and probation officers.Collaborates to develop re-entry plans, safety contracts, Functional Behavioral Assessments, and Behavioral Interventions Plans as need is determined by the CSE. This includes oversight and progress monitoring.Develop, update, and distribute student Individual Crisis Management Plans.Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.WHAT YOU NEED: Master’s degree in social work or school counseling.WHO ARE YOU:Able to maneuver between tasks in a multidisciplinary role. Be a strong communicator, both in writing and verbally, in all media forms with the ability to communicate with associates, supervisors, youth, parents/guardians, and placing districts, individually as well as group settings.Able to manage multiple responsibilities and utilize time management skills to ensure timely completion of tasks. Possess effective individual and group counseling skills to engage youth and support their success in school.
