Job OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Behavior Intervention Specialist to join our team.The Special Education Behavior Intervention Specialist is responsible for the following: Providing training, support and coordination of activities within the school setting related to the implementation of Positive Behavior Support and for assisting with the behavioral needs of all students enrolled; conducting FBAs and BIPs; working within an interdisciplinary team model and collaborating with staff.Job Duties:Assists in developing interventions, functional behavior assessments and behavior plans for providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors.· Assists in developing procedures and training materials for staff involved with students with challenging behaviors for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with established policies, BIP’s and IEP’s.· Conducts workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with behaviorally challenging students and students struggling with trauma-based responses or triggers.· Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purposeof conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program PBIS and Code of Conduct.· Train and support classroom staff to effectively and consistently implement behavior plans.· Act as a mentor teacher for the Education Department.· Evaluate student data to determine progress toward goals.· Implement retraining of staff when necessary and acts as a liaison with the team for any required plan changes.· Available for parent meetings as necessary.· Design program and customize curriculum to meet the individual behavioral needs of students.· Perform other related duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of classroom behavior management.Requirements:-Must have an understanding of behavioral characteristics associated with multiple behavior disorder, autism, intellectual disabilities, traumatic brain injuries and other behavior or issues associated with preschoolers.-Has good communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with parents and education professionals.-Has a basic understanding of instructional methods and education curriculums.-Must know and understand state and federal laws and regulations associated with special education.-The job’s responsibilities require the following physical demands:- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and /or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and sitting, walking, running, and standing.Job Type: Full-timePay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per yearBenefits:401(k)Dental insuranceHealth insuranceLife insurancePaid time offVision insuranceSchedule:Monday to FridayExperience:Working with individuals with special needs: 1 year (Preferred)Writing FBAs and BIPs: 1 year (Preferred)License/Certification:NYS Certified Special Education Teacher (Birth-Grade 2) (Required)Work Location: In person
