AnticipatedPart-Time School CounselorBeginning August 28, 2024Overview: The Island Park UFSD is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Part-Time School Counselor to join our elementary school team. As a School Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of our youngest students. This position offers a fulfilling opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of young learners and contribute to their overall well-being and success.Responsibilities:1. Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students to address various social, emotional, and behavioral concerns.2. Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify students' strengths, challenges, and areas for growth.3. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement intervention strategies and support plans for students.4. Use the School District’s Comprehensive Guidance Plan to organize and facilitate classroom lessons on topics such as pro-social behavior, relationship building, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.5. Serve as a resource for students and families by offering guidance on academic planning and personal development.6. Participate in school-wide initiatives and programs aimed at promoting a positive school climate and fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect.7. Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and student progress.8. Stay informed about current trends and best practices in school counseling and participate in professional development opportunities as needed.9. Co-chair 504 Committee with school building principal. 10. Attend Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings as required. Qualifications:1. Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field from an accredited college or university (required). 2. NYS State certification as a school counselor (required).3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and staff (required).4. Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to support the holistic development of children (required).5. Knowledge of counseling techniques, assessment tools, and intervention strategies appropriate for elementary-aged students (required). 6. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and effectively manage multiple responsibilities (required). 7. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding ethical standards in counseling practice (required). 8. Prior experience working as a school counselor, preferably in an elementary school setting (preferred).
