Position Overview: The Irvington Union Free School District is seeking a dynamic and innovative Elementary and Science Certified Teacher to pilot a dedicated 4th & 5th Grade Science Teacher position at Main Street School for the 2025-2026 school year. This role will replace the current Project Lead the Way (PLTW) model, providing a focused approach to science instruction using the Amplify Science curriculum and aligning with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).Responsibilities:Deliver targeted science instruction to 4th and 5th grade students using the Amplify Science curriculum.Develop and implement engaging, hands-on, inquiry-based lessons that foster curiosity and scientific thinking.Create a dedicated science lab space to support hands-on learning and experiments.Integrate engineering standards through new Amplify Science units.Prepare students for the 5th-grade New York State Science Assessment, including leading hands-on investigations.Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop cross-curricular connections, particularly in literacy, to support science comprehension and writing.Ensure continuity in the science curriculum and strengthen students’ foundational knowledge for middle school and beyond.Qualifications:New York State Certification in Elementary Education & Science (Dual Certification Preferred).Strong background in science instruction, including hands-on and inquiry-based learning.Experience with or willingness to learn Amplify Science and NGSS-aligned instruction.Passion for STEM education and fostering a love of science in young learners.Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues to support interdisciplinary instruction.This pilot program will provide valuable insights into the future of science instruction in our district, ensuring a rigorous and engaging learning experience for all students.
