ANTICIPATED OPENING: SCHOOL YEAR 2026 - 2027 Middle School Music Teacher (Grades 6â8) Probationary Certification Required: NYS Kâ12 Music Certification Description: The Islip School District seeks a dynamic and student-centered Middle School Music Teacher to teach Grade 6 Chorus, combined Grade 7/8 Chorus, and Creative Media (Grades 7â8). Responsibilities Include: Direct two choral ensembles: Grade 6 Chorus and Grade 7/8 Chorus. Develop and facilitate a Creative Media curriculum for all students in grades 7 and 8, centered on digital storytelling and applied musicianship. Provide instruction that emphasizes collaboration and purposeful communication through sound, technology, and performance. Prepare students for concerts and district performances. Integrate music technology into daily instruction. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment. Support recruitment and retention within the music program. Meet the needs of diverse learners , including students with disabilities, in accordance with IEPs and 504 plans to ensure an inclusive and accessible music education. Participate in optional after-school activities , including select choir and middle and high school theater productions. Work collaboratively with other music teachers and building staff to foster a unified, supportive educational environment. Required Qualifications: NYS Kâ12 Music Certification Exceptional piano proficiency Strong background in choral pedagogy and adolescent vocal development Deep understanding of the changing middle school voice and developmentally appropriate repertoire selection Demonstrated ability to teach music technology and media-based coursework Effective classroom management and organizational skills Preferred Qualifications: Experience accompanying ensembles and soloists. Theater experience, including vocal direction and support of theatrical productions.
