PHYSICAL THERAPISTDISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:This is a professional position involving responsibility for evaluation, consultation andproviding physical therapy treatment to students in accordance with written prescriptionor referral from a physician, The Physical Therapist must have a referral for physicaltherapy in accordance with State Education Law 131A prior to implementation of aplanned therapeutic program, The incumbent serves as a liaison to the medical andeducational communities by collecting and interpreting data as it relates to handicappedchildren. Does related work as required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Evaluates the degree of function and disability of handicapped children; Performsphysical therapy procedures upon referral of a licensed physician; Participates with otherpersonnel in the formulation of the child's care plan; Develops or assists in thedevelopment of physical therapy programs in conjunction with the Committee of theHandicapped; Confers periodically with physicians regarding all facets of child's care andrelated activities; Records on students' medical records, all physical therapy evaluations,re-evaluations, progress notes, and consultation; Maintains program records including butnot limited to the service budget and statistical reports of the frequency and types oftreatment and number of patients treated, provides in service education for staff andsupportive personnelFULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, ANDPERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:Good knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of physical therapy; goodknowledge of the operation and maintenance of apparatus and equipment used in physicaltherapy; good knowledge of pathological conditions and socio-economic factors affectinga disability; working knowledge of community resources applicable to physical therapy;ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to get along well with others;physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position,ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Licensed and currently registered by the New York State Education Department as aPhysical Therapist,
