Hewlett-Woodmere School District is seeking a 10.5 month School Counselor beginning August 27, 2025. Interested candidates must have NYS certification.The job description is as follows: The middle school counselor supports students’ academic, emotional, and academic growth during a critical stage of development. Activities may include individual counseling sessions to address personal concerns and challenges, group counseling sessions to foster positive peer relationships and promote healthy decision-making, and classroom lessons focused on self-esteem and goal setting. School counselors collaborate with teachers, school leaders, and families to provide the student with comprehensive support. School counselors help students navigate the unique challenges of middle school, develop resilience and coping skills, and set a solid foundation for future success.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:• Provide individual and group counseling to assigned grade level in areas such as attendance, academic progress, crisis intervention, and high school readiness.• Maintain accurate records of student interactions and academic progress.• Collaborate with the Special Education department to support student services and contribute to IEP development.Progress monitor students IEP goals.• Execute intervention strategies for at-risk-students.• Be readily available for crisis intervention.• Conduct classroom presentations on social/emotional learning.• Perform any other tasks as deemed necessary by the principal and assistant principal relating to student success.• Participate in grade-level team meetings, Instructional Support Team meetings, Committee on Special Education and 504 Planning meetings.• Provide resources to students and parents.• Participate in school orientation programs.Provide lessons on pre-vocational skills to expose students to career opportunities.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10.5-month work year. By contract with the Board of Education.EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board of Education policy and the Education State Law.
