We are seeking a visionary, dynamic, and collaborative Middle School ELA Educator who is eager to lean into learning and leadership. The ideal candidate will help weave our Portrait of a Graduate (POG) competencies directly into daily instruction. Key Instructional Priorities & Responsibilities As an ELA teacher in our district, your classroom practices will align with our core instructional priorities: Standards-Based Excellence: Implement rigorous, student-centered lessons aligned with the New York State Next Generation English Language Arts Standards to cultivate advanced information literacy, content mastery, and critical analysis. Culturally Responsive-Sustaining (CR-S) Framework: Actively foster a Welcoming & Affirming Environment. You will design student-centered learning spaces and incorporate restorative practices across all instructional environments. Targeted Assessment & Success Criteria: Clear learning targets will guide your instruction. You will collaborate to define modern assessment expectations and leverage Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to address both academic and behavioral/social-emotional needs. Embracing Our Digital Future: Intentionally integrate meaningful instructional technology, including exploring the ethical and impactful use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), to enhance reading, writing, and analytical instruction. Cultivating the Portrait of a Graduate (The 6Cs) Our "North Star" is ensuring every student develops six core competencies before graduation: Critical Thinking & Communication: Empowering life-long learners who can evaluate information, synthesize text, set aside personal biases, and respectfully exchange complex ideas across multiple modalities. Collaboration: Structuring meaningful group experiences where students actively listen, build inclusive relationships, and resolve conflicts respectfully to achieve common goals. Creative Innovation: Inspiring an overall spirit of curiosity that encourages students to think outside the box, embrace a growth mindset, and learn from failure. Compassion & Confidence: Designing an ELA workshop model where students cultivate empathy, find command of their public voice, and build the resilience needed to take intellectual risks. Qualifications Valid New York State Certification in English Language Arts (Grades 7–12 or 5–9 Extension). Deep pedagogical knowledge of the NYS Next Generation ELA Standards and middle school reading/writing workshop models. Demonstrated commitment to equity, social-emotional learning (SEL), and culturally responsive teaching practices. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, instructional leaders, and professional Learning Teams.
