The successful candidate will foster a student-centered learning environment that promotes critical thinking, civic engagement, and a deep understanding of social studies concepts. The teacher will be expected to integrate instructional technology, implement effective teaching strategies, and collaborate with colleagues to meet the diverse needs of all learners.Responsibilities:Employ a student-centered approach that cultivates critical thinking skills.Incorporate instructional technology to enhance student engagement and the learning of social studies.Develop and implement well-organized lesson plans and curriculum materials, providing written evidence of preparation as required.Plan and utilize diverse instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that accommodate the individual needs of all students.Collaborate effectively with special education teachers to modify curricula and provide support for students with IEPs.Serve as a positive role model for students, upholding the mission and values of the school district.Establish a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and supports the physical, social, and emotional development of students.Maintain open and effective communication with parents, students, principals, and colleagues through conferences and other means.Establish and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Principal or the Director of Social Studies to ensure the success of the social studies program.The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to foster the 6Cs within their classroom:Collaboration: Create opportunities for students to work together, communicate effectively, and build trust. Communication: Encourage students to articulate their ideas clearly, listen actively, and exchange ideas respectfully. Critical Thinking: Empower students to analyze information, solve problems, and develop sound judgment. Creative Innovation: Promote curiosity, risk-taking, and the ability to generate original ideas and solutions. Compassion: Cultivate empathy, kindness, respect, and an understanding of diverse perspectives. Confidence: Support students in developing self-awareness, resilience, and the ability to express themselves effectively. Qualifications:NYS Social Studies Teaching Certification, Grades 7 - 12Experience teaching high school social studies preferred.Strong knowledge of NYS Social Studies curriculum and instructional best practices.Proficiency in integrating technology into the classroom to enhance learning.Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.Commitment to the Herricks School District's mission, vision, and the principles of the Herricks Compact.
