Position Overview: Harborfields High School is seeking an exceptional Biology Teacher to join our science department, with preference given to candidates who bring a strong background or experience in scientific research. The successful candidate will engage students in meaningful, inquiry-driven learning, support student-designed research projects, and foster an environment that values curiosity, critical thinking, and real-world scientific exploration aligned with college and career readiness. Key Responsibilities: Teach high school Biology courses aligned with the New York State Science Learning Standards (Next Generation Science Standards) Design and implement research-based, inquiry-driven instruction that reflects authentic scientific practices Develop opportunities for students to engage in independent and collaborative research projects, including experimental design, data collection, analysis, and presentation Integrate current scientific research, literature, and methodologies into daily instruction Support and mentor students in science competitions, research symposiums, and extended learning opportunities Utilize laboratory and field-based experiences to deepen student understanding Use data to inform instruction and support student growth Collaborate with colleagues to expand research and STEM opportunities across the school Qualifications: Valid New York State Certification in Biology (7–12) required Demonstrated research experience in a scientific field (academic, laboratory, or industry-based) Strong understanding of experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing Experience facilitating or mentoring student research projects preferred Commitment to fostering inquiry, innovation, and critical thinking Strong communication and collaboration skills Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in Biology or a related scientific discipline Experience teaching advanced coursework (e.g., Regents, AP, or research-based electives) Experience partnering with external organizations (universities, laboratories, or industry) to enhance student research opportunities Familiarity with technology and tools used in modern scientific research Application Instructions: Qualified candidates should submit a resume, cover letter (addressed to Milton Josephs, Executive Director of Human Resources), and proof of certification via OLAS.
