The James I. O'Neill High School is seeking a probationary Assistant Principal for the 2026-2027 school year. We are looking for a student-centered, collaborative, and highly visible instructional leader who will contribute to a positive school culture while supporting high levels of academic achievement, student accountability, and social-emotional growth. Key Responsibilities Support the Principal in the overall leadership and daily operation of a comprehensive high school (grades 9–12) Lead and support instructional improvement efforts, including classroom observations, feedback cycles, and professional development aligned to the Danielson Framework Assist in the development and oversight of the master schedule, student scheduling, and academic programming (including Regents, AP, and elective offerings) Oversee student discipline and behavioral systems, ensuring consistent application of the Code of Conduct and alignment with DASA regulations and restorative practices Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful school climate that supports all learners Supervise and evaluate faculty and staff; support professional growth and accountability Coordinate and oversee extracurricular programs, athletics, and school events Use data to monitor student achievement, attendance, and behavioral trends, and lead building-level teams in responding to identified needs Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and support staff to ensure student success and post-secondary readiness Serve as a key liaison between the school and families, fostering strong communication and partnerships Support building-level committees (e.g., attendance, discipline, data teams, MTSS/RTI, school improvement) Assist in emergency management, safety planning, and implementation of district protocols Required Qualifications New York State School Building Leader (SBL) Certification Demonstrated successful experience in secondary education (grades 9–12) Strong knowledge of New York State Next Generation Learning Standards and effective instructional practices Experience with teacher evaluation and instructional coaching Knowledge of student discipline systems, DASA regulations, and restorative approaches Experience working with diverse student populations and promoting equity and inclusion Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills NYSED fingerprint clearance Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with evolving graduation requirements as identified in the NY Inspires plan and the NYS Portrait of a Graduate Experience with high school scheduling and student information systems Familiarity with college and career readiness initiatives, including graduation requirements, AP programming, and pathways Experience leading or contributing to Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)/RTI at the secondary level Experience supervising extracurricular activities and athletics Demonstrated ability to use data to inform decision-making and school improvement efforts Experience facilitating building-level teams or committees Understanding of social-emotional learning and adolescent development Desired Leadership Traits Visible, approachable, and relationship-driven leader High expectations for students and staff, balanced with empathy and support Strong problem-solver who remains calm and thoughtful in complex situations Collaborative team player who builds trust with faculty, students, and families Commitment to continuous improvement and reflective practice Application Process Interested candidates should submit the following with their application: Cover Letter Resume NYS Certification Three letters of recommendation
