James I. O'Neill High School is seeking a NYS certified high school Band/Music teacher at the secondary level beginning in the 2025-2026 school year who aligns with our vision of providing our students, educators and the communities we serve with the global knowledge, cultural understanding and skills needed to compete in the global community.The successful candidate will have strong knowledge in the NYS approved band/music curriculum, demonstrate an understanding of effective practices which promotes a student-centered learning environment and feels comfortable integrating technology within the classroom. Responsibilities will include:Plan, organize, and instruct high school students in various aspects of instrumental music, including concert band, and other ensembles as needed.Conduct rehearsals, performances, and concerts during the school year;Maintain and manage school-owned musical instruments and equipment;Recruit and retain students in the music program;Assess student progress and provide feedback;Participate in school and community events;Ability to teach Music Theory, AP Music Theory and Electronic Music elective courses is a plus;Ability to direct/coach extracurricular music activities (e.g. jazz ensemble, county-wide honors ensembles and NYSMAA auditions);Knowledge of technical/lighting needs for musicals, plays, sporting events, etc, is a plus.Requirements:NYS Music certification;NYSED fingerprint clearance.
