The Speech and Language Therapist shall:1. Hold New York State Speech and Language Therapist Certification.2. Have ability to relate to and work with children with disabilities.3. Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.4. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff,administration, parents, and the community.5. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using propergrammar and vocabulary.6. Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 incompliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.7. Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and fingerprint clearance hasbeen given by the Department of Education.8. Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonableaccommodation applicable to New York State laws.9. Pass the State required Tuberculin Test prior to start date.10. Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director may find appropriate and acceptable.VERIFICATION OF COMPETENCY:1. Application, resume, and updated transcript(s).2. Required documentation outlined in the qualifications above.3. Letters of reference from former employers, teachers, or other professional sources.4. Employment interview.EMPLOYMENT TERMS:The Speech and Language Therapist shall be employed under the following terms:1. Work year of ten months (181 days) with summer per diem work as available.2. Salary and conditions of employment specified in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.3. Conditions established by Federal and State laws and regulations, as well as The Hallen School policiesand procedures.JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Speech and Language Therapist shall:1. Establish and maintain as positive, respectful and supportive relationship with all students and staff.2. Provide mandated speech services by working in small group or one-to-one with students’ speech andlanguage challenges.3. Report student attendance in school data tracking system on a weekly basis.4. Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, special area teachers, and parents.5. Design approaches to help students communicate needs and wants as well as academics.6. Contact student’s physician, community speech provider, and parents when appropriate to betterunderstand student’s treatment.7. With young children, ensure appropriate instruction to help students acquire communication skills,healthy self-images, and appropriate relationships with peers as disability warrants.8. At the secondary level, implement reading, language, and writing strategies to enhance pragmatic earlyyear’s approach.9. Develop plan to evaluate speech and language therapy program and reflect on practice.10. Maintain an effective data-management system.11. Interpret speech evaluations conducted by CSE or parent.12. Maintain and interpret student records including but not limited to IEP’s.13. Assist principal in resolving student needs, issues, and problems.14. Utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency.15. Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend required meetings.16. Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire andgrooming, and effective work ethic.17. Display ethical behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agenciesassociated with the school.18. De-personalize students’ inappropriate behaviors especially when directed toward you.19. Support instruction, tutoring, and supervision of individual student or small groups of students.20. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising responsibilities and dutiesand disclose such information within legal confines with prior approval of administration.21. Adhere to all applicable Federal and New York State Board of Education rules and regulations and TheHallen School policies and procedures.22. Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by theirsupervisor and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
