Curriculum Responsibilities:Assists in the formulation and articulation of a philosophy and objectives for the instruction programGuides development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instruction servicesAssists in the development and coordination of the section of the budget that pertain to curriculum and instructionKeeps abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction, and furnishes leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the district’s educational programAssists in the recruitment, screening, hiring, training, and assigning of instructional personnelGuides development, implementation, and evaluation of pre-service and in-service training programs for professional personnelWorks with the District and building administrators in the improvement of individual staff competenciesCommunicates the approved curriculum to the professional staff and maintains a list of approved instructional materialsWorks with principals and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade level and departmental meetings, in order to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the districtEncourages the development, publication, and use of new instructional materials by the professional staffProvides staff leadership to ensure understanding of and promote the educational objectives of the district, and plans and administers programs of in-service educational activities for instructional personnelEvaluates and reviews the performance of instructional directors, coordinators, and supervisorsObserves teachers in their classrooms upon request of principals, and offers insights for the enhancement of the teaching-learning situationSupervises directly the work of all instructional coaches not on permanent assignment to a school buildingOversees the district-wide testing programs, and for other evaluative measures used by the schoolsStudies and evaluates, and, as appropriate, recommends adoption of new instructional materials, methods, and programs, and assists in budget preparation for newly approved instructional programs as related to instructional supplies, equipment, and materialsAssumes a leadership role in developing curriculum for any course newly mandated by the legislature or the BoardCoordinates all formal efforts of the professional staff in projects of curriculum improvementRecommends the addition of new courses, grade placement courses, credit allowance for courses, and graduation requirementsInterprets the curriculum and its philosophy to the Board, the administration, the staff, and the general publicParticipates in the work of state and national curriculum associations and study groupsAssists in the development of educational specifications for remodeling projects or new constructionEnsures full implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices for all programs and curriculumServes as the District’s DEI leader and works with the Superintendent of Schools to support this initiativeInterprets and presents to the Board of Education and community district K-12 state and local assessment dataManages all district grant fundingOversees, develops and monitors the District Comprehensive Improvement Plan (DCIP) and District Professional Development Plan (PDP)Oversees district programs, including but not limited to Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), Restorative Practices and ALP programsManages the District MBK grant, serves as the liaison with NYSED, and works with and monitors the MBK Program LeaderServes as liaison to Board of Education and/or district committees as assigned by the Superintendent of SchoolsPerforms such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools Personnel Responsibilities:Negotiates the contracts of the certificated bargaining unitsPlans and directs a program for recruitment, selection, and assignment of the best-qualified teachers and certificated personnelInterviews applicants, checks references, and makes recommendations to the superintendent for all certificated personnelAssists in the development and coordination of the section of the budget that pertains to personnelMaintains adequate records of personnelOrganizes a corps of substitute teachers and assigns them to schools as neededReports periodically to the superintendent the problems, conditions, and needs of the personnel services officeConfers with principals to determine needs for teachers of various classificationsPrepares and distributes recruiting materials in cooperation with professional staff members concernedCounsels and advises applicants, probationary and permanent personnelProvides necessary processing for insurance and renewal of state credentialsPlans, develops, and revises personnel management policies in accordance with state legislation for submission to the Board for adoption and maintains personnel policy handbookEngages in actively advocating, promoting, and securing the rights of all persons, with particular reference to employees of the school
