Position The Greenburgh Central School District is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Spanish Teacher (Grades 7–12) who is committed to fostering academic excellence, cultural understanding, effective communication, and a passion for language learning in a diverse educational environment. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School District, Greenburgh is dedicated to developing knowledgeable, caring, and globally minded students. The successful candidate will provide engaging and rigorous Spanish language instruction that supports students' growth in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The teacher will create meaningful learning experiences that promote language proficiency, appreciation of Spanish-speaking cultures, critical thinking, collaboration, and the values of equity, inclusion, and social-emotional development. Duties The responsibilities below outline the primary duties of the position. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional related duties may be assigned as needed: Plan, develop, and deliver rigorous Spanish language instruction aligned with the New York State Learning Standards for World Languages and district curriculum. Design engaging, standards-based curriculum for multiple levels of Spanish, from introductory Grade 7 courses through advanced high school coursework, including Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or college-level offerings as applicable. Develop students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while fostering an appreciation for the cultures, histories, and perspectives of the Spanish-speaking world. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, authentic resources, educational technology, and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Create and administer formative and summative assessments, using student performance data to provide feedback, monitor progress, and inform instruction. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and progress in accordance with district expectations. Establish and maintain a structured, positive, inclusive, and productive classroom environment that promotes student engagement, responsible behavior, and communication in the target language. Incorporate culturally responsive teaching practices, social-emotional learning, and restorative approaches to support student success. Provide individualized and small-group instruction to address students' academic and language development needs. Collaborate with the World Languages Department, support staff, and administrators to strengthen curriculum alignment, instructional practices, and student achievement. Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders, communicating student progress in a timely and professional manner. Participate in curriculum development, department meetings, faculty meetings, parent-teacher conferences, professional learning communities, and district professional development activities. Support district initiatives, including International Baccalaureate programming, global-mindedness, and culturally responsive educational practices. Demonstrate professionalism by maintaining high ethical standards and contributing positively to the school community. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Building Principal or District Administration. Qualifications Valid New York State certification in Spanish 7–12. Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken Spanish. Strong knowledge of second-language acquisition, proficiency-based instruction, and the New York State Learning Standards for World Languages. Ability to teach Spanish courses across multiple grade levels and levels of language proficiency. Experience developing engaging, culturally responsive, and standards-aligned world-language instruction. Excellent communication, collaboration, classroom-management, and organizational skills. Experience teaching students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to meet a range of student learning needs. Experience using formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and inform instruction. Experience integrating educational technology, digital resources, and authentic Spanish-language materials into classroom instruction. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, cultural responsiveness, and student-centered learning. Knowledge of International Baccalaureate philosophy and instructional practices preferred. Experience teaching Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or college-level Spanish courses preferred. APPOINTMENT: Appointment to this position shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, following a comprehensive review of the candidate’s training, experience, certifications, credentials, and demonstrated qualifications.
