Position The Greenburgh Central School District is seeking an inspiring and innovative Music Teacher to provide engaging, inquiry-based instruction to students in grades 2–3 within the framework of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). This educator will foster a student-centered, inclusive learning environment that nurtures creativity, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation of music through performance, composition, and culturally responsive experiences. The ideal candidate brings enthusiasm, compassion, and a commitment to equity, integrating music with transdisciplinary learning, leveraging technology, and using authentic assessments to support student growth. The Music Teacher will collaborate with colleagues, maintain strong communication with families, and contribute to a vibrant school culture through performances and school-wide events. This is a 10-month position; duties and responsibilities are subject to change, and additional, related assignments may be required. Duties The responsibilities below outline the primary duties of the position. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional related duties may be assigned as needed: Provides inquiry-based general music instruction to students in grades 2–3, fostering creativity, collaboration, and global awareness in alignment with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). Instruction integrates musical concepts such as harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble performance through transdisciplinary learning experiences. Cultivates a positive, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment that reflects the IB Learner Profile, promoting respect, open-mindedness, and risk-taking while supporting the diverse cultural and academic needs of students. Assesses and monitors each student’s musical growth using authentic, performance-based assessments that emphasize reflection, self-expression, and contribution to the learning community. Maintains clear and consistent communication with families and school staff, supporting strong home-school partnerships and actively engaging the community in musical learning experiences and school events. Collaborates with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement cross-curricular, inquiry-driven units that integrate music with core subject areas, reinforcing the IB PYP framework. Demonstrates responsible stewardship of school resources by maintaining accurate inventories of musical instruments, materials, and equipment to ensure equitable access and sustainability. Selects and utilizes a diverse repertoire of musical literature that reflects a wide range of cultures, perspectives, and traditions, supporting culturally responsive teaching and global-mindedness. Incorporates music technology and innovative instructional strategies to enhance student engagement, creativity, and 21st-century skill development through project-based learning experiences. Provides equitable opportunities for student participation in a variety of musical ensembles (e.g., recorder ensemble, drum circle, chorus, and school performances), encouraging student voice, choice, and leadership. Plans, rehearses, and directs multiple musical performances throughout the year that celebrate student learning and bring together the school and broader community, aligning with the school’s emphasis on community connection. Differentiates instruction to meet the varied learning styles, abilities, and interests of all students, ensuring access and success for every learner. Designs and implements a balanced, developmentally appropriate music program that maximizes instructional time while supporting inquiry, exploration, and skill development. Establishes and maintains high expectations for student behavior that align with IB values, creating a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment during all musical activities. Partners with school leadership to support school-wide events, assemblies, and celebrations, using music as a means to enhance school culture, community engagement, and the overall educational experience. Qualifications Valid NYS certification in Music K - 12 Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices. Bilingual/Multilingual strongly encouraged to apply APPOINTMENT: Appointment to this position shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, following a comprehensive review of the candidate’s training, experience, certifications, credentials, and demonstrated qualifications.
