Position The Greenburgh Central School District is seeking highly conscientious, dependable, and motivated individuals to serve as Substitute Teachers across its schools. In this critical role, certified Substitute Teachers are responsible for providing instructional continuity in the absence of the regular classroom teacher, thereby ensuring that students continue to learn and thrive within a safe, structured, and supportive environment. Substitute Teachers are instrumental in maintaining a positive classroom culture, adhering to established lesson plans, and fostering an atmosphere characterized by respect, engagement, and academic focus. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong classroom management capabilities, professionalism, flexibility, and the ability to establish positive rapport with both students and staff. This position offers an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to students' educational experience while supporting the overarching mission of the Greenburgh Central School District. This description is not exhaustive, and other related duties may be assigned as necessary. Key Responsibilities Include: The responsibilities below outline the primary duties of the position. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional related duties may be assigned as needed: Execute the provided lesson plans and instructional materials to ensure pedagogical continuity and adherence to district curriculum standards. Upon arrival, report to the main office, comply with all building protocols, and proceed promptly to the assigned classroom prepared to commence the instructional day. Maintain responsibility for the classroom throughout the entire scheduled workday, including remaining on-site for a minimum of ten minutes post-student dismissal to facilitate a smooth and organized transition. Establish and sustain a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment conducive to student learning, consistent with district expectations for conduct and engagement. Provide continuous and active supervision of students at all times, ensuring that students are never left unattended in the classroom or any other assigned areas. Engage students in the learning process by facilitating instructional activities, providing necessary clarification and support, and fostering participation and on-task behavior. Support student academic progress by monitoring achievement, assisting with assigned tasks, and reinforcing the classroom expectations and routines previously established by the regular teacher. Adhere to all district, school, and classroom procedures, schedules, and expectations, including mandated safety protocols and instructional guidelines. Communicate professionally with school staff and administration regarding classroom operations, student requirements, or any concerns that may emerge during the assignment. Contribute positively to the school climate by exhibiting professionalism, flexibility, and a collaborative approach in all interactions with students and staff. Qualifications Possession of a high school diploma is required. Successful completion of the following workshops prior to employment: Child Abuse Identification, School Violence Prevention and Intervention, and Dignity for All Students Act (DASA). Fingerprinting clearance is mandatory. Demonstrated ability to adhere to written and verbal instructions. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational proficiencies. A demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices. Bilingual/Multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to submit an application. Prior classroom experience is preferred, but not requisite. APPOINTMENT: Appointment to this position shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, following a comprehensive review of the candidate’s training, experience, certifications, credentials, and demonstrated qualifications.
