Overview:Greenburgh Central School District is seeking a Dean of School Climate and Culture at the Woodlands Middle/High School. The Dean of School Climate and Culture will partner with the administration and school teams to ensure that all students show achievement gains and develop strong character skills to succeed in high school, college and beyond. The person in this position is responsible for proactively encouraging and supporting students to engage in positive behavior and engaging families in furthering their child’s education. Job Description:The Dean of Climate and Culture is a comprehensive position responsible for facilitating the culture of the school, including the development of student character and ensuring a positive and structured environment that creates the conditions for learning. This position requires an organized and consistent educator with a concrete vision of excellence, adult leadership experience, the ability to build outstanding relationships with stakeholders, and a talent for inspiring students to high expectations. Reporting to the Principal, the Dean of School Climate and Culture serves as primary caretaker and promoter of the School’s culture and values. Working with staff, families, and students, the Dean of School Climate and Culture will facilitate communications and information dissemination between the school and its families – planning and implementing systems and procedures that contribute to the overall health of the school and the academic performance of its students. Responsibilities of the Dean of School Climate Culture will include, but are not limited to: Student CultureWork closely with Principal to establish a positive, joyful, and achievement-oriented school culture vision and planFacilitate teacher training and support around relationships, proactive positive culture, expectations, consistency, and classroom managementCoordinate and implement a school-wide behavior management system with meaningful and logical incentives and consequencesCreate the vision and oversee the execution of school-wide culture and community events Serve as the point person for breaches of culture, including maintaining the reactive systems and data for removal, detention, out-of-school suspension, and parent re-entry meetings Knowledge of techniques of Restorative Practices and Social Emotional Development and serves and leads and monitors and supports schoolwide implementation to build capacity and ensure accountabilityMonitors In School Suspension Program aligned with Restorative Strategies and Practices Assists in standardizing processes and procedures of district-wide school safety teamsOversees and monitors the Saturday School Program as alternative to suspension aligned with Restorative Practices once a monthCollaborate with staff, administrators, and parents through the Response to Intervention (RtI) process and Restorative Practices and Social and Emotional Strategies Assist in the planning, developing, and implementation of student behavior plansCollaborate with the school counselors and personnel to create and maintain research-based behavioral interventions and train faculty and staff on those interventions Growth MindsetModel school core values and character strengths at all timesWilling to offer support and receive constructive feedback from colleagues in order to create a professional working atmosphere that is conducive to change and improvementParticipate in school-wide and individual professional development, including pre-service training over the summer and weekly during the academic year Attendance:Work with the Attendance Officer to ensure and improve student attendance Build strong relationships with students and especially build student programs that increase enrollment and retention and decrease drop-out preventionActively recruit students by being in the community, forming partnerships, and working with school colleagues to ensure enrollment targets are met.Coordinate education alternatives for students in needCollaborate with staff, administrators, and parents through the Response to Intervention (RtI) process and Restorative Practices and Social and Emotional Strategies Assist in the planning, developing, and implementation of student behavior plansCollaborate with the school counselors and personnel to create and maintain research-based behavioral interventions and train faculty and staff on those interventions Stakeholder Engagement and ManagementLead school-wide recognition assemblies, parent workshops, community events, and other culture-building activitiesSupport teachers in building relationships with students and parents; implement the parental involvement plan and run the parent involvement committee Ensure that the physical environment of the school reinforces school culture and facilitates student growth and achievement i.e., WISE Program and RoomConduct regular school culture walkthroughs, classroom observations and audits to help staff maintain a high bar of excellencePlan and lead ongoing student culture professional development throughout the yearTrack and report student behavior through School, Dean’s List, and other regional level reports Other Duties as Assigned Supervise school entry, breakfast, lunch, transitions, and dismissal to ensure they are safe and positiveLead efforts to ensure all students have excellent homework completion and that homework is checked efficientlyWork with the Head of Security to ensure effective supervision for school events, and extracurricular activitiesFill in for class coverage, as needed, in the event of a coverage gapRequirements for the PositionBachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and clinical, psychology, counselor or social work training preferredValid state SDL or SBL Principal license preferredExcellent verbal and written communication skillsTeaching/Leadership experience in a school setting demonstrating use and implementation of successful student behavior management strategiesProficient in computer applicationsSatisfactory completion of state required criminal history checkExtensive understanding of relationship management and ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members with easeConflict resolution and ability to facilitate the resolution of conflict confidentially, professionally, and in a timely mannerPlan, organize and manage time and resources
