GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision of the Director of Technology and Innovation (DOTI), the Educational Technology Specialist, is responsible for developing, organizing, and conducting professional development programming to faculty and staff in the use of educational technology. Collaborate with instructional staff in designing lessons and incorporating instructional technology into existing units of study for all curriculum areas. Assist instructional staff in designing coding lessons, STEAM activities, and design thinking activities using instructional technology. Collaborate with DOTI and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Personnel to further incorporate NYS Technology, Computer Science, and Digital Fluency Learning Standards into K-12 curriculum. Coordinate the sending of district wide communications through the District’s communication system. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIESCoordinate, organize, and facilitate the effective use of K-12 instructional technology to enhance student achievement.Collaborate with teachers to embed the usage of best practices in instructional technology within the units of study at each level/content area. Be an advocate for the incorporation of technology into instructional practices in order to increase student engagement and provide opportunities for ongoing formative assessment collection. Support teachers; use of instructional technology to increase student engagement and achievement. Hardware and software may include Google for Education, interactive white boards, document cameras, Chromebooks, and others as acquired within the district. Model lessons for teachers in the usage of best practices in instructional technology, with emphasis on GAfE. Provide opportunities for debriefing sessions as needed. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to support the collection and analysis of data to inform instruction through district software programs.Provide professional development on Superintendent Conference Days, and other professional development events based on teacher feedback regarding needs.Collaborate with Instructional Coaches to preview and test requested/proposed software programs to determine their efficacy before purchase and implementation.Collaborate with a district committee to ensure that students meet the computer literacy skill requirements needed to take the NYS online assessments.Other responsibilities determined by the Director of Technology and InnovationCandidates must possess the ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, and other constituent groups.Assist in the implementation and oversight of district 1:1 programAssist in the management of the District’s communication system and content management systems.Coordinate the sending of district wide communications through the District’s communication system.Maintain software/hardware instructional technology inventories.Assist in budget planning and preparation related to educational technology.Provide website support to faculty and administrative staff.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:Expert level of technology experience and 21st century learning, understanding and application. Deep knowledge of content standards, effective instructional strategies, and assessment driven instruction. Strong Google Apps for Education skills (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites); Experience (or familiarity with) tools such as, but not limited to: 3D printing, AutoCAD, Arduino, Makey-Makey, Tynker, BeeBot; Highly effective communication, listening, collaboration, and interpersonal skills; thorough knowledge of computer software, hardware, and related technology equipment; knowledge of coding, STEAM, AR/VR; ability to plan, organize, and deliver professional development to instructional staff; ability to work effectively with district administrators, faculty, vendors and end users; ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position; ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software; ability to present ideas clearly and concisely; both orally and in writing; sound judgment, innovative; flexible; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Highly qualified candidate who holds a valid NYS teaching certification as an Educational Technology Specialist.An experienced educator with broad knowledge of instructional technology support programs.
