Responsibilities:• Reports to the Director of Facilities and coordinates with the building principal to ensure proper operation of building• Checks and performs minor maintenance of the following on a daily basis: school playground equipment, boilers, HVAC; electrical, pneumatic, lighting, PA, burglar and fire alarm systems• Replaces burned out lights, small fixtures, and ballasts• Performs minor carpentry and plumbing repairs• Paints, vacuums, strips and waxes floors• Replaces floor tiles• Clears leaves and snow from sidewalks and building entrances/roof drains• Moves furniture and equipment• Inventories and orders supplies as needed• Sets up rooms for various events• Removes garbage and graffiti from the building• Performs other custodial duties as designed• Assists teachers and other school staff to expedite work orders and performs other duties as assigned that support the needs of children• Assigns and supervises cleaners and custodians• Compiles and completes various reports and work orders• Responds to calls from police and fire departmentsQualifications and Requirements:• THIS IS A PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT – The successful candidate must take and pass the Glen Cove Civil Service Head Custodian examination when first offered and qualify for placement on the List of Eligibles• Minimum two years’ satisfactory experience in building cleaning and maintenance activities• Basic knowledge of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and remain flexible• Ability to effectively a manage a complex building and motivate cleaning and custodial staff• Fingerprint clearance through NYSED and “Letter of Good Conduct” from Nassau County Police Department required
