The successful candidate will provide engaging general music instruction and lead our elementary band program for Grades 4–5. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts in Music and innovative practices such as e-music and digital composition tools.Responsibilities:Design and deliver standards-based general music instruction for Pre-K through 6th-grade students.Develop foundational music skills, including singing, rhythm, movement, listening, and basic music theory.Teach and lead elementary band for Grades 4–5, including instrument instruction, rehearsals, and performances.Integrate technology and e-music platforms (e.g., Soundtrap, Chrome Music Lab, Noteflight) to enhance creativity and collaboration.Create culturally responsive lessons that honor and celebrate musical traditions from around the world.Organize and direct school-wide music performances and assemblies.Collaborate with colleagues and families to support student growth in the arts.Maintain accurate records of student progress and participate in ongoing professional development.Qualifications:NYS Certification in Music EducationProficiency in one or more band instruments and ensemble direction.Experience or training in digital music tools and music technology integration.Strong communication and organizational skills.A growth mindset and a passion for inspiring young musicians.Position #2: Middle School Music & Band Teacher (Grades 6–8)Location: The Garrison SchoolPosition Type: Full-time, Tenure-trackStart Date: Aug 26, 2025Position Summary: The Garrison School is seeking a visionary Middle School Music and band teacher. This individual will lead music instruction in Grades 6–8 and direct the middle school band. The ideal candidate is an inspiring educator with experience in performance ensembles, music theory, technology integration, and audio/sound equipment management.Responsibilities:Provide standards-aligned music instruction for Grades 6–8, focusing on ensemble performance, theory, and music appreciation.Direct the Middle School Band program, including rehearsals, performances, and recruitment.Integrate music technology and sound engineering into the classroom and performance settings.Knowledge of setup and operation of sound equipment for school concerts, assemblies, and special events.Facilitate student use of music production software (e.g., GarageBand, Soundtrap, Ableton Live).Lead and mentor students in composing, arranging, and performing original works.Coordinate middle school concert schedules, budgets, and inventory management for instruments and equipment.Promote community involvement through concerts and school events.Support cross-curricular collaborations and arts-integrated learning opportunities.Qualifications:NYS Certification in Music Education or eligible for certification by August 15thDemonstrated success in middle school band direction and music instruction.Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.Experience with sound systems, microphones, mixers, and live audio setups.Familiarity with music composition software and digital audio tools.
