The Garrison School seeks an experienced and motivated special education teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. The candidate will demonstrate the ability to design and deliver special class instruction for children with intellectual disabilities. Additionally, the candidate will be able to provide instruction that is aligned with the general curriculum and deliver support services needed to address barriers to improve academic performance. Qualifications:Experience with the development of Individual Educational Plans ("IEP") for students;Ability to administer educational evaluations to use as a basis for making eligibility determinations;Ability to create IEP goals that are student specific and informed by various data points; Experience supporting teachers, teaching assistants and service providers with the implementation of students' IEP programs; Ability to develop and implement modifications and accommodations for students with disabilities in a special class program based on needs;Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding special education and students with disabilities;Outstanding written and verbal communication skills;Successful prior special education teaching experience with students varied readiness levels;Experience with direct, multisensory reading instruction, and standards based mathematics instruction;Possesses a genuine belief that every child can learn and is able to consistently provide multiple ways and opportunities for students to reach high expectations through thoughtful, strategic and innovative teaching;Committed, creative, progressive in his/her thinking and flexible;A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion;Lifelong learner who is a role model for both students and colleagues;Collegiality, approachability, flexibility and adaptability.The Garrison Union Free School District is committed to diversity in our workplace and welcomes all candidates.
