SCHOOL BUSINESS MANAGERDistinguishing Features:This is a professional business management position responsible for directing, coordinating and performing a variety of business functions in a school district. The work is performed under the general supervision of the superintendent of schools in accordance with pertinent laws and school district policies. Responsible for the supervision of subordinate staff in financial and accounting operations and purchasing as well as administrators responsible for district facility operations, transportation and nutrition services. Minimum Qualifications:1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, business education, business administration or related field, and one year of business management experience which included accounting and budgeting duties; or2. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with an associate degree in accounting, business administration or closely related field and three years of experience as described in (1) above; or3. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (1) and (2) above.Terms of Employment: This is a twelve (12) month position. Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent. Civil Service regulations apply.Job Responsibilities:Advises the Superintendent and Board on the financial needs, implications of district programs, and on a variety of business, real estate, and financial matters.Serves on the Superintendent's Cabinet, attends all meetings of the Board of Education, and prepares reports for the Board of Education as requested by the Superintendent of Schools.Provides leadership in long-range financial planning.Manage all accounting operations including, but not limited to, payables, payroll, internal controls, grants, etc.Develops and administers the budget process to ensure compliance and a positive financial status as well as oversees the activities of the administrators responsible for budget management.Cash management, and financial accounting to include preparation of periodic and annual financial reports.Develops, administers, and implements external contracts between the District and other organizations or agencies to include, but not limited to contracted service agreements for auditor (via business services), insurance agent of record, food service management and other agreements in areas of assignment.Provides support for Superintendent with capital projects and planning related to assisting at the facility, site planning, liaising with architects, financial planners, and Clerk of the Works.Participates in the collective bargaining process to include identifying and researching bargaining issues. Assists in developing bargaining strategies and positions, participates as a member of the district bargaining team.Reviews and develops internal control procedures and monitors compliance within overseen departments.Oversees or monitors all operational risk management activities of the district and monitors and analyzes risks within the district’s business units.Apply on OLAS
