Elementary Principal (PreK–6) This is a 10 month (plus 22 summer days) probationary position Expected start date: September 2026. Salary based on contract and experience. Harry Hoag Elementary School, Fort Plain Position Overview Fort Plain Central School District is seeking an exceptional educational leader to serve as Elementary Principal at Harry Hoag Elementary School in Fort Plain. This is an outstanding opportunity for a collaborative, student-centered administrator who is committed to academic excellence, positive relationships, and building a school culture where every student and staff member can thrive. The successful candidate will lead a PreK–6 school of approximately 300 students while partnering with dedicated teachers, support staff, families, and district leadership to ensure high levels of learning, growth, and achievement for all students. Key Responsibilities Provide strong instructional leadership that promotes continuous academic growth, student achievement, and effective classroom practice. Lead curriculum, assessment, and instructional improvement efforts aligned to New York State standards, with a strong focus on literacy, math, and student growth. Support high-quality early childhood programming and developmentally appropriate practices in a PreK–6 setting. Supervise, support, and evaluate certified and non-certified staff while fostering professional growth, collaboration, and accountability. Build and sustain a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school climate and culture. Develop meaningful relationships with students, staff, families, and the broader school community through clear, proactive, and respectful communication. Lead and support systems for academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional intervention, including collaboration with student support staff and grade-level teams. Utilize student achievement, attendance, behavioral, and other relevant data to inform instructional practices, intervention planning, and school improvement efforts. Collaborate with the administrative team, faculty, and staff, and work closely with the superintendent to implement district initiatives, support district goals, align practices, and ensure continuity across programs and initiatives. Ensure a safe, supportive, and well-managed learning environment for approximately 300 students. Ensure compliance with safety protocols, emergency procedures, and district policies while maintaining a calm, organized, and student-centered building environment. Manage the daily operations of a busy elementary building, including supervision, scheduling, student management, family communication, testing coordination, school events, and building procedures. Serve as a highly visible and engaged leader in classrooms, hallways, arrival, dismissal, school events, and daily student life. Demonstrate sound decision-making, professionalism, consistency, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Exercise fiscal responsibility by using building resources thoughtfully and making decisions that align with district priorities and student needs. Desired Qualifications Proven experience as an instructional leader with a focus on improving student outcomes. Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. The ability to inspire, motivate, and develop staff while fostering collaboration and teamwork. Experience supervising and evaluating instructional personnel. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills. A visible leadership style that emphasizes trust, collaboration, consistency, and accountability. Demonstrated commitment to inclusive practices and the ability to support diverse learners, including students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and students requiring academic or behavioral interventions. Experience with MTSS, student support teams, attendance, behavior systems, and school improvement planning. Knowledge of early childhood and elementary best practices. The ability to manage the daily operations of a PreK–6 building while remaining visible, approachable, and connected to students, staff, and families. Required Qualifications New York State School Building Leader certification. Successful administrative and teaching experience preferred.
