Mental Health Counselor (K-12)Mental Health Counselor (K-12) position is a 10-month, probationary position. The MHC may be required to work an additional ten days in the summer (compensated at the hourly rate listed in the contract) to execute duties associated with the position during school vacations. Required Qualifications: Candidate must be licensed or license-eligible as a clinical or school psychologist, social worker, or mental health counselor . Other credentials may be considered. Salary: Per current FPTA contract; level of education and experience will be considered.This position reports to the Director of Special Education.The Mental Health Counselor (K-12) will be responsible for providing services related to the delivery of mental health care to assigned clients in each school building and will provide consultation services to school staff to support the overall mental health goals of the school district.The ideal candidate will:Have a minimum of three years of counseling experience supporting children and adolescentsDemonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusionUse solution-focused, problem-solving counseling techniquesPossess highly effective crisis management skillsHave a strong knowledge of various clinical interventions and use of a collaborative approach to meet the unique needs of each childBe able to maintain confidentiality and privacyPossess strong interpersonal skillsDuties/Responsibilities include: Provide direct mental health services, to include:Intake assessmentIndividual/group therapyCrisis interventionKeep regular contact with parent/guardian of each clientComplete treatment plans and treatment plan updatesMaintain and track documentation of mental health support for studentsServe as a standing member of school teams in both buildings (for referrals specific to concerns with behavior)Provide mental health resources and referralsProvide consultation for school staff regarding mental health issues including classroom observation and appropriate service determination Provide and/or organize district-wide mental health/wellbeing programming targeted to both students and staffServe as a member of strategic planning teams when mental health and wellness are topics for discussionMaintain confidentiality and obtain release of records consent when appropriateServe as the liaison to the local mental health system
