GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Assistant to the Superintendent is a cabinet level position responsible for broad executive control of the systems, practices, policies, and procedures of the Elmont School District. The Assistant to the Superintendent provides support in all facets of the organization by maintaining compliance with guidelines, mandates and regulations governing schools. The Assistant to the Superintendent promotes the district’s mission and supports the District Superintendent's efforts to ensure leadership for developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible educational programs and services. ESSENTIAL TASKS:Lead the process to determine the types of programs needed in the district and develop implementation plans.Support the development of the Leadership Team through the facilitation of professional learning opportunities, regularly scheduled meetings, and ongoing coaching.Supervise, evaluate, and direct the work of the various school district departments.Directly supervise the Human Resources Department (Personnel).Participate in recruitment, hiring and mentoring of new members of the teaching and administrative team.Participate in recruitment, hiring and mentoring of classified staff.Collaborate with district administration and the Superintendent on the development, expansion, andimplementation of the district’s “Aspiring Leadership Program.”Evaluate principals and teachers, as per the APPR.Assist in the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs, and staff development programs throughout the district.Respond to requests for information from the State Education Department.Assist the District Superintendent on the development of policies and procedures that relate to student health and safety.Collaborate with the District Superintendent to build community partnerships that provide vital educational experiences for students and staff.Assist the District Superintendent in the continuous review and revision of operational goals and objectives, and efforts to measure progress toward their attainment.Assist the District Superintendent on the development, implementation, and evaluation of district-wide action plans. Remain abreast of developments and innovations in the field by reading current literature, attending professional and association meetings and conferences, and discussing developments of mutual interest with others in the field.Perform other duties as required by the District Superintendent.PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Presents a spirit of enthusiasm, energy, and multicultural awareness.Carries out duties and responsibilities (both personal and professional) with honesty, credibility, and integrity, without close supervision and with little direction.Ability to establish positive and cooperative relationship.Demonstrates knowledge and good judgment in matters of agency policy and procedures.
