ResponsibilitiesSubstitute Teaching Assistants play a crucial role in maintaining a productive and supportive learning atmosphere in the absence of the regular Teaching Assistant. Key responsibilities include:Support Instruction: Assist the classroom teacher or substitute teacher with instructional and non-instructional tasks, including small group work, one-on-one student support, and preparing materials.Supervise Students: Monitor and supervise students in the classroom, hallways, lunchroom, playground, and during other school activities, ensuring student safety at all times.Assist with Classroom Management: Help maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment by assisting with the implementation of behavior management strategies.Provide Personal Care (if needed): Assist students with special needs with mobility, feeding, or other personal care needs as directed and appropriate for the assignment.Follow Directions: Adhere to all school and district policies and procedures, including maintaining strict student and staff confidentiality.Maintain Records: Assist the teacher with clerical duties, such as taking attendance, recording grades, or organizing paperwork.QualificationsRequired:High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children and follow directions from supervisory staff.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Must pass a fingerprint-supported criminal background check as required by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).Preferred:Previous experience working with school-aged children (e.g., camp counselor, tutor, volunteer).Experience or training as a Teaching Assistant.Ability to adapt quickly to different classroom settings and student needs.
