We are seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Special Education to lead our special education department and ensure the delivery of exceptional services to our students with disabilities.Position Summary:The Director of Special Education will provide leadership and direction for the district's special education programs and services. This individual will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, developing and implementing effective special education programs, and fostering collaborative relationships with staff, parents, and community stakeholders. The Director will play a pivotal role in creating and maintaining an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.Responsibilities:Provide leadership and direction for the district's special education programs and services, including evaluations, IEP development, and related services.Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations related to special education (IDEA, Section 504, etc.).Develop, implement, and evaluate effective special education programs and services to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.Supervise and evaluate special education staff, including teachers, related service providers, and support personnel.Manage the special education budget and resources effectively.Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.Provide professional development and training to staff on special education best practices and legal requirements.Oversee the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans.Serve as a liaison between the district and external agencies, including the State Education Department and community service providers.Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and reports related to special education programs and services.Address and resolve parent and staff concerns related to special education services.Oversight of the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) to Committee on Special Education (CSE) Transition.Supervision of the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) ProgramManagement and Implementation of the English as a New Language (ENL) ProgramCoordination and Implementation of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act Program:Qualifications:Master's degree in Special Education or related field required; Doctorate preferred.Valid New York State certification as a School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) required.Significant administrative experience in special education leadership is required.Extensive knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations (IDEA, Section 504, etc.).Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing effective special education programs and services.Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.Proven ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.Experience with data driven decision making.Demonstrated commitment to inclusive education practices.Experience with grant writing and overseeing grants
